The USAID Youth Employability Skills (YES) Network Project opened a career center in the Zdravko Cvetkovski secondary school in Skopje today. This is one of ten school career centers that USAID will renovate and equip in Skopje this year. USAID provided new furniture, IT equipment, and books and other resource materials.  

Corn Harvest

USAID Mission Director, James Stein symbolically opened the corn harvest today in Pelagonija where farmers, with the help of the USAID Small Business Expansion Project and its Grow More Corn initiative, have achieved record-breaking corn yields this growing season. The first phase of the initiative began in May with the financing and installation of drip-irrigation technology and training programs to teach innovative farming practices to 40 farmers in Polog and Pelagonija.

On October 17th, 2013, 103 entrepreneurs, owners of micro and small businesses in Macedonia, were recognized for successfully completing the Entrepreneurs Class, Entrepreneurs Finance Class and Program in Collection of Receivables implemented by the Center for Entrepreneurship and Executive Development (CEED) Macedonia with support from the USAID Micro and Small Enterprises Project.

 International Day of Rural Women

On October 12th 2013, in the village of Shipkovica, the USAID Small Business Expansion Project and the Municipality of Tetovo celebrated International Day of Rural Women with an event that promoted employment opportunities for the rural women of Polog. For example, a professional herb collector can earn double the national average salary (approximately $900) for 8-10 months per year. Depending on the number of existing collection facilities, it is estimated that some 500 rural women from Polog could benefit financially from herb collection.
