Prevent TB Transmission and Disease Progression

Preventing TB transmission and progression of latent TB infection (LTBI) are integral to meeting global TB targets. Early diagnosis and effective treatment are the best way to prevent TB. The U.S. Government will focus on these efforts by:

  • Screening for active TB in high-risk individuals and groups
  • Preventing transmission in group settings
  • Screening for and treatment of LTBI to reduce progression to active TB

New TB Infection Control Practices Lead to Safer Kyrgyz Hospitals

In March 2013, TB CARE I assisted with the roll out of guidelines through a pilot test at seven hospitals that provide TB treatment services in northern Kyrgyzstan. The objective was to improve hospital-based infection control practices. To ensure adherence to the new guidelines, staff at seven hospitals, as well as selected staff from the Sanitary and Epidemiological Service of the Ministry of Health, received training and extensive on-the-job-supervision and mentoring in managerial, administrative, environmental and personal infection control measures.
