The U.S. Mission to Uganda has announced a donation of $3 million to the United Nations World Food Program (WFP) in support of refugees in Uganda. The U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), through the Office of Food for Peace (FFP), provided the funding to WFP on behalf of the American people.

The Mubende District Youth Camp is an annual event that offers as many as 500 attendees from throughout the district the opportunity to come together and learn about the development programs available to them. The key areas of focus at the camp will be agriculture, leadership, and health. The camp is held in a different district sub-county every year. This year, it’s taking place in Kasambya Sub-County at Das Primary School.

On July 14, Acting Mission Director for the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) in Uganda, Jo Lesser-Oltheten, along with Minister of Tourism, Wildlife, and Antiquities, Professor Ephraim Kamuntu, launched the Uganda Wildlife Education Centre (UWEC) Children’s Activity Book—a wildlife conservation education package designed to inspire young people to appreciate, conserve, and protect Uganda’s unique environment.

Good morning!  I am pleased to share the stage today with the Minister of Tourism, Wildlife, and Antiquities, Professor Ephraim Kamuntu.  And I would like to thank Executive Director James Musinguzi for allowing me to enjoy a behind-the-scenes tour of the Uganda Wildlife Education Centre, or UWEC.  I loved interacting so closely with some of the animals that represent Uganda’s incredible natural heritage.

U.S. Ambassador to Uganda Deborah R. Malac on June 29 spoke to agricultural processors and smallholder farmers from the Busoga region to promote the benefits and importance of public-private partnerships in increasing agricultural productivity and profits.
