The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and the Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN) hosted a workshop in Dushanbe titled Scaling-Up Flour Fortification in Tajikistan. USAID/Central Asian Republics’ Regional Mission Director, Jonathan Addleton, and Dr. Sherali Rahmattulloev, Head of the Maternal and Child Health Department of the Ministry of Health and Social Protection, opened the workshop.
Ambassador Susan M. Elliott, Deputy Prime Minister Murodali Alimardon, and Minister of Agriculture Qosimjon Qosimov officially opened the new USAID Land Reform and Farm Restructuring Project. Through this project, USAID supports dehkan farm reorganization and strengthens property rights. Ambassador Elliott noted that, “Secure land use rights are fundamental for improving the economic situation of Tajik farmers and increasing food security. Land reform should secure farmers’ rights to their land and encourage investments that will increase farm productivity and profits.”
The United States is pleased to commit $15 million in financing towards the Central Asia-South Asia electricity transmission project (CASA-1000).

Representatives from the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) participated in a ceremony to officially open Havaskor-1 Water User Association in the Qubodiyon district. The group was formed through an open and participatory process involving small-scale and commercial farmers, community leaders, and government officials. The association is now in the process of rehabilitating on-farm canals, drains, and water control gates.
