To meet the urgent needs of victims of the recent landslides in Koslanda, the United States Government has provided 6.5 million Sri Lankan Rupees ($50,000) for emergency humanitarian assistance.  The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) is working closely with Sri Lanka’s National Disaster Relief Services Center and international aid partners to coordinate the donation of most urgently-needed items.

Manpreet Anand, Deputy Assistant Administrator of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), opened a new agricultural processing factory in Marukarampalai, Vavuniya yesterday, October 11.  This project was established through a public-private partnership between USAID, the development agency of the United States government, and Northern Farms, a Sri Lankan agribusiness.

U.S. Ambassador Michele Sison joined today with the family of the late Dr. H.W. Jayewardene and members of the Bar Association of Sri Lanka (BASL) to inaugurate a newly-renovated auditorium named in honor of Dr. Jayewardene, the first president of BASL.
