BELGRADE – On September 19, the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), a U.S. government agency, and the High Court Council (HCC) of Serbia celebrated the achievements of USAID’s “Institutional Strengthening of the High Court Council” activity—a $500,000 project to support Serbia’s judicial reform efforts.

“USAID’s support to the High Court Council in its effort to reform the judiciary has moved Serbia one step closer towards realizing the goals outlined in the Action Plan of the National Judicial Reform Strategy 2013-2018,” said Dragomir Milivojević, the President of the High Court Council.

“The High Court Council plays a central role in establishing an effective judiciary that serves the needs of the Serbian people,” said USAID Mission Director Azza El-Abd. “The United States has partnered with Serbia to strengthening the judiciary for more than a decade – ours is a longstanding partnership.”

The conference presented achievements since the Law came into effect, the efficiency of available channels for blowing the whistle, and providing judicial relief for whistleblowers.

Šabac, June 21, 2016 – U.S. Ambassador to Serbia, Kyle Scott, visited the Opportunity Bank Serbia’s (OBS) Sabac branch office to hear about OBS’s latest innovations to increase access to finance for small, rural businesses. OBS works to provide micro, rural, agro and small- and medium-enterprise (SME) lending to Serbian businesses that cannot obtain financial assistance from traditional banks.

On May 10, 2016, Ambassador Kyle Randolph Scott met with Ms. Gordana Rajkov, President of the Center for Independent Living (CIL) Serbia and long-time disability movement activist, to discuss voters with disabilities’ participation in the April 2016 Serbian elections.  Last month’s election was the first time Serbia collected data about the accessibility of polling stations for Persons with Disabilities (PWDs).
