U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) Mission Director Jerry Bisson joined President of Pakistan Mamnoon Hussain today for the inauguration ceremony of the USAID-funded $1.5 million Faculty of Education building at the Karakoram International University (KIU).  KIU Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Khalil Ahmed was also present at the event.

The newly constructed building is one of the 17 Faculties of Education buildings that USAID has constructed or rehabilitated in order to train Pakistan’s next generation of teachers and education professionals.  These facilities will serve over 6,500 students and over 500 faculty members each year.

President Hussain acknowledged USAID’s role in promoting access to high-quality education in the province and throughout Pakistan through infrastructure support.  He also recognized the significance of having a modern Faculty of Education and the need to prepare well-trained educators in Pakistan.

Food Assistance

In an effort to combat malnutrition, the United States contributed an additional $34 million to the World Food Program (WFP), which will provide food rations for the next four months to 3.2 million Pakistanis, including 1.63 million Temporary Displaced Persons (TDPs) from the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA).

The Assistant to the Administrator of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) Donald “Larry” Sampler and the President of the International Rescue Committee (IRC), David Miliband officially inaugurated the USAID-funded Pakistan Reading Project’s mobile bus library program at a government secondary school in Islamabad. The Mobile Bus Library Program will bring age-appropriate reading materials to communities which do not have established libraries in order to help reintroduce and re-establish a national culture of reading in Pakistan.

United States Provides Additional $9.3 million to Assist IDPs

The United States Embassy announces an additional contribution of $9.3 million to help the government of Pakistan meet the health, water, sanitation, and livelihood needs of internally displaced persons (IDPs) from the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA).  These funds will be provided through the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).  The U.S. government will provide $7 million dollars to UNICEF/Pakistan to improve health, hygiene, water, and sanitation services for IDPs with the remaining funds used to ensure the health of livestock. 

United States Contributes an Additional $8 Million to Support Pakistanis Displaced by Conflict

The United States contributed an additional $8 million to help the government of Pakistan meet the food and nutritional needs of the internally displaced people (IDPs) from the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA).  The contribution, provided through the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), is part of the ongoing efforts of the U.S. government and the United Nations' World Food Program (WFP) under the Twinning Program.  
 
USAID’s Women in Trade Job Fair

The USAID-sponsored Women in Trade (WIT) job fair held in Karachi ended on a high note Tuesday with more than 150 candidates from varied academic fields, over 10 universities and academic institutions, and more than 20 renowned trade organizations in attendance. USAID Provincial Director Mr. Leon S. Waskin was the Chief Guest at the full-day Job Fair, held at the city’s Avari Towers.
