U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) Mission Director Jerry Bisson joined President of Pakistan Mamnoon Hussain today for the inauguration ceremony of the USAID-funded $1.5 million Faculty of Education building at the Karakoram International University (KIU).  KIU Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Khalil Ahmed was also present at the event.

The newly constructed building is one of the 17 Faculties of Education buildings that USAID has constructed or rehabilitated in order to train Pakistan’s next generation of teachers and education professionals.  These facilities will serve over 6,500 students and over 500 faculty members each year.

President Hussain acknowledged USAID’s role in promoting access to high-quality education in the province and throughout Pakistan through infrastructure support.  He also recognized the significance of having a modern Faculty of Education and the need to prepare well-trained educators in Pakistan.

U.S. Consul General Lahore, Zachary Harkenrider and the CEO of the Gujranwala Electric Power Company Zahoor Ahmed Chohan inaugurated a new state-of-the-art Power Distribution Center today. The center has been established with support from the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) to automate the monitoring and management of power flow throughout the network. This upgrade has dramatically reduced the incidents of unscheduled load shedding throughout Pakistan.

Islamabad, April 2, 2015 – Over the past two years, the Balochistan Agricultural Project sponsored by the U.S. government has helped a group of 12 farmers dramatically increase their income to over $670,000 from the sale of dried mulberries.  In 2013, the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) developed the program to work directly with farmers from the Mastung district in Balochistan to research and expand the market for mulberries across Pakistan.

Director for U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) Pakistan Gregory Gottlieb served as the keynote speaker to open the Pakistan Agriculture Conference and Exposition 2015 in Islamabad.  The two-day exposition will showcase the latest technological advances in the agriculture industry and provide government agencies and the private sector a forum to discuss agriculture engagement strategies.  The United States contributed a five stall pavilion to exhibit the agriculture development efforts supported by USAID in Pakistan.
