The Woman’s Condom is designed to be easy to insert, use and remove, making it unique compared to other female condoms. FDA approval is expected in 2014. Photo credit: PATH.
An Introduction to Contraceptive Technologies: Contraceptive Vaginal Ring (NES+EE)
Contraceptive Vaginal Ring (NES+EE)
The NES+EE Contraceptive Vaginal Ring is the first long-term hormonal method completely under the woman’s control that lasts for one year. It is used “3-weeks in, 1-week out” to mimic a normal menstrual cycle. FDA approval is expected in 2015. Photo credit: Population Council.
An Introduction to Contraceptive Technologies: Sayana Press

SILCS Diaphragm + a Contraceptive Gel, or TFV Gel
The SILCS Diaphragm, a new diaphragm that is "one size fits most" when used with a contraceptive gel, would be a nonhormonal and woman-controlled method that prevents unintended pregnancy. It could also be used with Tenofovir gel to prevent HIV and HSV-2. Photo credit: PATH.
An Introduction to Contraceptive Technologies: MZL Combination Topical Gel
MZL Combination Topical Gel
This gel, applied by a woman up to 24 hours before sex, is a woman-controlled method that would prevent unintended pregnancy, HIV, HSV-2 (the virus that causes some forms of herpes), and HPV (the virus that causes most forms of cervical cancer). Photo credit: Population Council.
An Introduction to Contraceptive Technologies: 90-day Tenofovir + LNG IVR
90-day Tenofovir + LNG IVR
This vaginal ring combines hormonal contraception with the HIV treatment drug Tenofovir. This woman-controlled method would prevent unintended pregnancy and provide protection against HIV and HSV-2 (the virus that causes some forms of herpes) for 90 days. Photo credit: CONRAD.

Kassa Mulualem plow her father's land. Kassa is a project participant and role model. She was one of the first women in her area to take up plowing, an activity that is traditionally reserved for men. By sharing her experience with the village economic and social associations in her area, she is helping to raise awareness about gender equality and encouraging other USAID beneficiaries to change their lives by changing their understanding of the division of labor between men and women.
