A USAID-funded Alternative Development (AD) project implemented by United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) donated 1,100 soccer jerseys received from the professional German football club Weder Bremen to soccer academies in AD areas.  The soccer academies, founded as part of the AD project, create significant goodwill towards AD interventions that is critical to operate in areas such as Aguaytia, Tocache, Neshuya and Pongo de Caynarachi (San Martin and Ucayali region areas).  The ceremony took place at the UNODC’s Lima headquarters on December 18. 

Paolo Guerrero a Peruvian footballer who plays for the Sport Club Corinthias Paulista and the Peruvian National team attended the event and was the main guest.  Francisco Boza, the president of the IPD (Instituto Peruano del Deporte) and Alejandro Vassilaqui from CEDRO participated as well.

The main guest, Paolo Guerrero, was extremely excited by the enthusiasm and effort of the honored children and he also expressed his joy and support to these types of projects, promoting sportsmanship in the most remote places of Peru.

With this innovative experience once again football is shown as a good tool for development because it is social inclusion, gender inclusion, and minorities’ inclusion.  It is health, education, and values ​​education of future generations. It is human capital development and social capital development.  It is a way of working the change for our future based on future generations.
