New Satellite Monitoring Deforestation and Illegal Logging Unit in Ucayali

Last May 4th was the presentation of the New Satellite Monitoring Deforestation and Illegal Logging Unit in Ucayali region, thanks to the joint work of the Special Prosecutor for Environmental Matters (FEMA), the National Forest Conservation Program (PNBCC) the Ministry of Environment, SERFOR and with technical and financial support from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).

The technology platform will allow monitoring of deforestation and support a modern fiscal management. The initiative represents an innovative effort to deal with environmental crimes and reduce the rate of deforestation and illegal logging in Peru. The Ucayali region holds fifth place in the country's deforestation rate and high rates of illegal timber trade.
