During the week of January 19, USAID/Peru was visited by the Acting Assistant Administrator Ms. Elizabeth Hogan.
During her visit, Ms. Hogan was able to visit project sites in Huaraz and Pucallpa, meet with VIP Officials of the Peruvian Government, and learn about USAID/Peru's Environment program.
In Huaraz, Ms. Hogan learned about water contamination caused by minerals which is partially attributable to the recession of glaciers which is exposing high-mineral rocks. She also met community members who shared how they were experiencing climate change locally and showcased a climate change adaptation activity.
In Pucallpa Ms. Hogan learned about USAID-supported efforts via the “Peru Bosques” activity to help the forest sector to be inclusive, legal, profitable and sustainable.
She traveled down the Ucayali River to see first-hand legal and illegal timber transport boats and rafts, and wood processing sawmills, along the river banks.
