The project "Strengthening the Preparation for El Nino phenomenon in Peru" arises thanks to an agreement signed last January 26th between Peru’s National Civil Defense Institute (INDECI), the Office of US Foreign Disaster Assistance (OFDA) and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). The grant is for 1.3 million US dollars.
The signing ceremony was attended by the Head of INDECI, General Alfredo Murgueytio; USAID Director, Lawrence Rubey; the Regional Advisor USAID - OFDA, Tim Callaghan and the Director of Care Peru, Milo Stanojevich, among other representatives of institutions linked to the project.
Thanks to this project the regions of Tumbes, Lambayeque, La Libertad and Piura, located in northern Peru, will have training and assistance to cope with the damage that can generate the Phenomenon El Nino.
The project will be led by Care Peru and involves the participation of Save the Children, COOPI, Caritas Peru, Predes, Practical Solutions, Adra Peru and World Vision, who will be coordinating during emergencies and conducting training and education to build temporary shelters for those who will have to leave their homes due to flooding.
