On May 13, Acting Assistant Administrator for USAID’s Bureau for Democracy, Conflict, and Humanitarian Assistance (AA/DCHA) Thomas H. Staal announced nearly $128 million in additional funding for the humanitarian response in Ethiopia. The U.S. Government (USG) has provided a total of nearly $705 million in humanitarian assistance for Ethiopia in FY 2015 and to date in FY 2016.
The Strengthening Peace Building, Conflict Resolution, and Governance in Afghanistan Activity was established to support peacebuilding efforts in Afghanistan through policy research, provision of grants to Afghan civil society organizations, and technical assistance to strengthen the legitimacy of Afghan government institutions. The Activity’s three goals include: 1) preparing civil society organizations (CSOs) to advocate for conflict resolution, peacebuilding and good governance; 2) informing U.S., Afghan, and international policies and programming through research and fellowships; and 3) helping public officials to govern effectively and legitimately.

The United States Agency for International Development (USAID), in partnership with the U.S. National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), is funding SERVIR-Mekong, a five-year (2014-2019) project implemented by the Asian Disaster Preparedness Center (ADPC). The project supports governments, regional institutions and other key stakeholders in the Lower Mekong countries to use publicly available satellite imagery and geospatial technologies, such as mapping and related analyses, to prepare for and respond to disasters, manage natural resources and improve food security. SERVIR-Mekong is part of a network of SERVIR hubs currently in operation across the developing world.
MERLIN is a USAID endeavor led by the U.S. Global Development Lab and in partnership with the Bureau for Policy, Planning and Learning and the Bureau for Global Health. It aims to source, co-create and co-design development solutions that innovate on traditional approaches to monitoring, evaluation, research and learning (MERL).

USAID’s Justice System Strengthening Program (JSSP) is a four-year rule of law program that builds upon USAID’s prior efforts to advance the rule of law in Kosovo and ensure that the justice system operates in a professional, efficient, and accountable manner. The program focuses on promoting a judicial system that adheres to high standards of independence, impartiality, integrity, accountability, and transparency, and on supporting the functioning and integration of judicial structures in the North.
The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Governance Project works with the KP government and civil society organizations to improve local and provincial governments' abilities to provide services to their citizens. The project works closely with the KP government and local stakeholders, and is aligned with the KP government's Strategic Development Partnership Framework.
