BCIPN supports municipal governments in Nepal to develop and administer building permits and control systems in order to improve seismic performance of new building constructions.
In preparation for a potential earthquake disaster USAID has worked over 20 years supporting DISASTER PREPAREDNESS efforts in Nepal. USAID's support enabled partners to strengthen earthquake response capacity at the local and national levels in collaboration with the Government of Nepal, nongovernmental organizations, private companies and local communities.
The Kankai River Basin End-to-End (E2E) Early Warning System increases the resilience of communities vulnerable to floods, while strengthening stakeholder capacity to manage an E2E early warning system.
The five-year, $8 million Baliyo Ghar project is a key part of USAID/Nepal’s reconstruction portfolio. The project is designed to help homeowners and communities rebuild in a way that increases their resilience to future disasters.
The majority of the buildings in Nepal are extremely vulnerable to earthquakes. While legislation makes compliance to building codes mandatory, many municipalities lack the appropriate mechanisms and capacities necessary to strictly implement building codes.
