Astana, Kazakhstan —  The 30 largest energy intensive enterprises in Kazakhstan are joining government agencies to learn new techniques for complying with the Law of the Republic of Kazakhstan on Energy Saving and Energy Efficiency Improvement. Speakers at the Central Asian Energy Efficiency Program conference presented ways to reduce energy use, their international experiences with implementing industrial energy efficiency policies, and the results of energy management system audits conducted at several of Kazakhstan’s largest industrial companies.

USAID and the government of Kazakhstan are working to reduce greenhouse gas intensity and emissions by stimulating investments in energy efficiency technologies and programs. A gap analysis comparing the energy management systems of several of the largest industrial companies with international standards identified more than $1 million in potential annual energy cost savings.  

US Ambassador to Kazakhstan Kenneth J. Fairfax shared his support for this important event. “The Conference opens an important dialogue among the government agencies responsible for implementing green energy laws, the largest energy intensive enterprises in the country, and international donor organizations. An effective energy management system enables a company to follow a systematic approach to continual improvement of energy performance, including energy efficiency, energy use and consumption.”
