At the Washington Call to Action, you announced that India will remain in the forefront of the global efforts against child mortality, acknowledging India’s potential to greatly reduce preventable child deaths.  Today’s summit proves the commitment of India’s leaders to both the global community and the children of India.  The U.S. Government is proud to be a part of this initiative, and we look forward to working with the Government of India on addressing critical child survival issues.

On January 28, the United States and India conducted a national consultation on water efficiency in urban areas.  This consultation marked the culmination of the U.S. Agency for International Development’s (USAID) Water Analysis, Innovations, and Systems Program (WAISP) to increase access to safe drinking water and sanitation services.

Today, U.S. Department of State Special Representative for Global Food Security, Jonathan Shrier (Acting), and Joint Secretary (Information Technology and Extension) Indian Ministry of Agriculture Mr. Sanjeev Gupta, visited the first agricultural training program of the India-U.S.-Africa triangular partnership. The United States Government is funding this training program through Feed the Future, the U.S. government’s global hunger and food security initiative. This triangular partnership aims to improve agricultural productivity, strengthen agricultural value chains, and support market institutions in Kenya, Liberia, and Malawi.

The U.S. Government through the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) recently organized a five-day study tour in the United States for 17 senior officials from the Government of India on the use of Smart Grid technology in the power sector.  Smart Grid refers to the use of state-of-the-art information and communication technology to improve the efficiency, reliability, cost-effectiveness, and sustainability of the production and distribution of electricity.
