The United States has given grants to "The Grand Challenges in Tuberculosis Control." This program supports Indian innovators to improve TB treatment adherence through out-of-the-box innovations. It enables scientists, researchers, and entrepreneurs to develop new solutions through seed funding and rigorous mentoring.
To mark World AIDS Day, U.S. Ambassador Nancy J. Powell visited the Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital in Thane District, Maharashtra to see firsthand the work that is being done to combat HIV/AIDS. The Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital offers HIV testing and counseling services, as well as free anti-retroviral (ARV) drugs, to persons living with HIV who are clinically eligible for treatment.
The United States, through the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), has awarded a $500,000 grant to Dimagi, Inc. and its partners, RTI International and St. John’s Research Institute. The grant will support these organizations in their new program in Bangalore to expand the use of a mobile-phone job-aid to help health care workers screen women for domestic violence during visits to health centers where women receive basic services, like ante-natal care. Women who are identified as survivors of violence are then informed of their rights and referred for counseling. The launch of activities coincides with the first day of the international community's 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence campaign, which runs from 25th November to the 10th of December.
U.S. Ambassador to India Nancy J. Powell announced today the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) Girl Rising Country Partnership, which will use the power of the film Girl Rising to increase public dialogue on gender and education issues in order to encourage community-level interventions to help improve girls education.
