Accra, GHANA—On August 24, the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), through the U.S. government’s Feed the Future Initiative, launched the National Seed Trade Association of Ghana (NASTAG), in collaboration with the Ministry of Food and Agriculture and other development partners. NASTAG is a partnership between producers, traders, government institutions and processors in the seed industry. The Association aims to spur private sector investment and promote the use of high-quality certified seed. In attendance were, USAID/Ghana Agriculture Team Leader Jenna Tajchman and Deputy Minister of Agriculture Honorable Dr. Sagre Bambangi, who highlighted the importance of growing Ghana’s seed industry to build a food secure future.

At the event, seven new Executive Council Members of the Association were inducted into office to grow the competitiveness of Ghana’s seed industry. The Executive Council will work to strengthen the business and technical skills of its members, promote collaboration between seed value chain actors, and advocate on regulations, standardization and the provision of general seed information to all stakeholders.

USAID Ghana Launches the 2014 Indoor Residual Spraying Program to Fight Malaria

West Mamprusi, Ghana— Dr. Philip Ricks, of the US Presidential Malaria Initiative (PMI) to USAID’s Ghana Mission, stakeholders from the National Malaria Control Programme (NMCP), and local health authorities kicked off the seventh  annual Indoor Residual Spraying (IRS) campaign today.  The IRS campaign will spray more than 216,000 structures during the 2014 campaign season, starting in the Bunkpurugu-Yunyoo, East Mamprusi, Savelugu-Nanton, and West Mamprusi districts in northern Ghana, protecting nearly 570,000 residents from malaria.

New classroom block at Zamrama Line in Accra to boost teaching and learning

More than 700 students are to begin their studies in a newly built three-story classroom block at Zamrama Line cluster of schools in Laterbiokoshie in Accra.  This 18-unit classroom block will provide sufficient classrooms to allow all students in the schools to access the full day’s period of teaching and learning, and reduce the double shift system within the Accra metropolis.

The Ministry of Trade and Industry formalized a working relationship with PYXERA Global with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding today.  The Ghana Supply Chain Development Program will enable collaboration towards increasing the participation of small and medium sized enterprises in the supply chains of international oil companies operating in Ghana.

Accra, Ghana — During a press roundtable briefing, the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) presented USAID Ghana’s new Country Development Cooperation Strategy (CDCS) for 2013-2017.  The U.S. Ambassador to Ghana, Gene Cretz, introduced James Bever, Mission Director for Ghana and Alex Deprez, Mission Director for the West Africa Region, both of whom outlined their mission’s portfolios while discussing budget updates and recent development achievements.

The signing ceremony of the MOU between the United States Agency For International Development (USAID) and the Korean International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) is a comprehensive development cooperation in Ghana. This is the first cooperative project between USAID and KOICA and is designed to improve maternal, newborn and child health care in the Volta Region.

TAMALE, Ghana – The Feed the Future (FTF) USAID Agriculture Technology Transfer (ATT) project launched on Thursday, November 21, 2013, at the University for Development Studies in Dungu, near Tamale.  The five-year, United States Agency for International Development (USAID) funded project aims at increasing the availability of appropriate and affordable farming technologies to sustainably improve the competitiveness of the maize, rice and soya value chains in northern Ghana.

The U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) is an official forum sponsor.  The theme of this year’s forum is to promote vibrant and effective cooperation to accelerate access to hygiene, sanitation and water for all in Africa.
