The community in Haro Bake today celebrated the opening of a rehabilitated micro dam tha t will increase its reservoir capacity by 502,800 cubic meters. The additional water harvested will enhance the ability of more than 15,000 households in the Borena rangelands and surrounding area to cope with failed rains and drought. The micro dam, rehabilitated with the support of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), will enhance the community’s resilience and improve the nutritional status of families by saving the lives of thousands of livestock and increasing the amount of milk and meat obtained from them. The dam will also improve peace and security in the area by reducing conflict over dwindling water resources.
Members of the Impact Angel Network (IAN) closed an investment in the food and beverage industry in Ethiopia. The investment will fund the expansion of a leading producer of paper products and importer, manufacturer and distributer of fast-moving consumer goods in Ethiopia. The company sees an opportunity to leverage management’s experience in the sector and the IAN and RENEW’s support to gain significant market share in the growing food and beverage industry by offering low-cost, locally produced alternatives to expensive imports.

Key stakeholders from the wheat flour industry came together today to celebrate business growth and share learnings from three years of engagement under the African Alliance for Improved Food Processing activity, a public-private partnership between the United States Agency for International Development, Partners in Food Solutions and TechnoServe. The activity worked with Ethiopia’s commercial wheat millers, producers of fortified blended foods and flours, bakeries, and pasta manufacturers to expand wheat flour fortification in Ethiopia.
