CII'S 2017 IMPACT BRIEF
I'm incredibly proud to join my team in sharing a snapshot of our Center's progress over our first 5 years. From the start, we have been constantly evaluating what works, capturing these learnings in a series of practical guides and actionable tools, and applying these cutting-edge practices to our work each day. CII has led Grand Challenges that tap the imagination and ingenuity of unlikely solvers – from a car mechanic inventing a promising device for obstructed labor to a wedding dress designer that inspired reimagined protective suits for healthcare workers battling Ebola. We've ensured that commercial partners are in place to rapidly bring these new solutions to the market. We've forged innovative financing models and partnerships with banks and healthcare companies that support the transition toward sustainably financed health systems. And, we've utilized market incentives to encourage industry to invest more of their own resources to advance life-saving products for critical global challenges such as Zika.
We invite you to learn more about how we work. And, as always, we seek your ideas and feedback to best shape our work in the years to come.
Wendy Taylor, Director, Center for Accelerating Innovation and Impact (CII)

READY, SET, LAUNCH: A Country-Level Launch Planning Guide
READY, SET, LAUNCH, part of CII's IDEA to IMPACT series, brings a sharp focus to the critical pivot from global product development to targeted selection and launch planning. With input from a diverse set of practitioners and lessons gathered from successful and not-so-successful launches, READY, SET, LAUNCH brings together guidance, tools, and case studies to support country prioritization and the development of a comprehensive scale-up strategy and operational launch plan. Follow this link to download the guide and toolkit.

Release of the READY, SET, LAUNCH guide at the Aspen Institute
CII and the Aspen Institute's Global Health and Development Program co-hosted the launch of the newest addition to the IDEA to IMPACT series, READY, SET, LAUNCH, on December 5th. At this launch, a panel of global health practitioners – innovators, manufacturers, implementers and donors – shared their experiences introducing global health innovations grounded in the lessons from READY, SET, LAUNCH and discussed how we can practically put its principles to use. A video of the panel can be found here.

Nigeria Gets Action Plan to Cater for Sick Newborns
On November 17th, the Nigerian Federal Ministry of Health formally launched its national chlorhexidine strategy and implementation plan [PDF, 1.8MB], along with the NENAP and ENCC, in an event marking World Prematurity Day and World Pneumonia Day. Once implemented over a 5-year period, the strategy is expected to save 55,000 newborn lives. Under the leadership of the Nigerian Federal Ministry of Health, CII and USAID/Nigeria worked alongside partners such as CHAI and MCSP to develop the strategy and implementation plan.
INNOVATIONS
Zika Grantee Partnering with Facebook to Inform Zika Response in Brazil
Through the Combating Zika and Future Threats Grand Challenge, the Johns Hopkins Center for Communication Programs is working in Honduras and Guatemala to develop the Rapid Habit Optimization Tool (R-SHOT) [PDF, 2.1MB]. The tool will identify how environmental cuing tactics can be combined with motivational and informational approaches to curb Zika by creating new vector control habits in end users. The Johns Hopkins team will partner with Facebook to gather insights from their data about what groups to target and how to craft messages to spread awareness about consistently cleaning standing water.
