SAATLI – Today, thanks to joint efforts between Azerbaijan and the United States, residents of the village of Garajalar in the district of Saatli celebrated the completed rehabilitation of a community road. The United States Agency for International Development (USAID), the Ministry of Economy, the local Executive Committee, and municipal government representatives attended the event. USAID and the Government of Azerbaijan co-financed the project, which was managed by the East-West Management Institute (EWMI).

The renovated 600-meter road will improve living conditions for more than 1,200 people in the Garajalar community. The new road will provide easier access by residents to the town of Saatli, reduce time and transportation costs, increase school attendance, and improve emergency response time to the community.  

USAID Launches Women’s Participation Program

Nearly 60 stakeholders representing international organizations, local NGOs, Embassies and government entities gathered together to launch the Women’s Participation Program funded by the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID).

The Women’s Participation Program seeks to improve the status of women in Azerbaijan by raising public awareness on issues that affect women and empowering more women to participate in decision making processes. Implemented by Counterpart International, the two-year program will fund six women’s rights NGO coalitions in projects that aim to:

USAID marks its 50-year achievements

Today, the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) commemorates its 50th anniversary. USAID's history goes back to the Marshall Plan reconstruction of Europe after World War Two and the Truman Administration's Point Four Program. On September 4, 1961, the Congress passed the Foreign Assistance Act. The Act mandated the creation of an agency to administer economic assistance programs, and on November 3, 1961, President John F. Kennedy established USAID.

The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) Office in Baku today signed a grant agreement to co-operate on combating trafficking in persons and strengthen access to justice in Azerbaijan. Azerbaijani Social Workers Explore the Turkish Child Protection Model

Today, social workers from Azerbaijan shared the results of a successful study tour to Turkey organized by the Consolidated Action for Sustained Changes (CASC) program funded by the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) and implemented by Save the Children. New Milk Collection Facility Opens in Goranboy

New USAID/Azerbaijan Mission Director Arrives

Michael Greene assumed his position as the new Mission Director for the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) in Azerbaijan.

Prior to being named as Mission Director, he served as Director of the Regional Platform for Western Afghanistan starting in 2009 where he oversaw all USAID stabilization and development field staff, activities, and office operations. He was the Director of the Office of Alternative Development Programs from 2005-2009, in Peru.
