The United States Government (USG) is supporting the Government of the Republic of Angola in conducting the 2015 Demographic Health Survey (DHS) . The DHS will obtain updated information on fertility rates, maternal and reproductive health indicators, child mortality rates, HIV/AIDS prevalence rates, and malaria and anemia indicators. This partnership involves the Ministry of Planning and Territorial Development and the Ministry of Health (MOH), under the leadership of the National Institute of Statistics (INE), with the support of UNICEF and the World Bank.
The 2015 DHS is the first population-based study that will determine the status of public health indicators of the Angolan population. It is expected to take place over a 20 month period. Through the US Agency for International Development (USAID), the USG will support the INE and the MOH to design and implement the population-based survey that will provide quality information on social indicators and essential provincial level indicators. The DHS results will be vital to better guide public health sector programming decisions with the objectives of ending preventable maternal and infant mortality and achieving an AIDS Free Generation. The DHS will also allow the GRA to compare the health status of Angola with the rest of the world. USAID will provide technical and financial assistance amounting to 5.4 million dollars with support from the US President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) and the President's Malaria Initiative (PMI). The DHS will also receive support from various GRA Ministerial Departments and other international partners.
