Farmer receives ultrasound equipment for his livestock

On October 13, USAID Representative, Catherine Johnson, attended a closing ceremony for USAID’s interventions to Albania’s livestock sector in areas affected by the 2015 flooding. At the ceremony, four ultrasound machines were donated, allowing for the proper and efficient detection of pregnancy. The donation was one of several activities organized by the Livestock Entrepreneurs Association of Albania to support farmers who lost livestock during the February 2015 flooding.

Today, mayors from Albania’s 61 municipalities and representatives from the Ministries of State for Local Issues, Economy and Finance, and NGOs participated in a conference on decentralization reforms. The conference marks the one year anniversary of the 2015 passage of Territorial Administrative Reform.

A conference on the decentralization of power was held in Tirana, jointly organized by Association for Local Autonomy and the Association of Albanian Municipalities, in partnership with USAID’s Planning and Local Governance Project (Tetra Tech ARD). According to news reports, Minister of Local Government Issues Bledar Çuçi said that the administrative-territorial reform was now a tangible reality, and that it was building a sound basis for the further advancement of the decentralization of power to the benefit of the local government units.

USAID signed a cooperative agreement with Creative Business Solutions for their new $1,410,000 project, SmartCapital, financed by through a cost share with USAID.

USAID has signed a cooperative agreement with Fondacion CEED Albania for their new $1,037,931 AgroTourism program supported by USAID and the Embassy of Sweden in Tirana and financed through a cost share.
