KORCA, MARCH 31ST, 2010     In a signing ceremony attended by the Mayor of Korca, Niko Peleshi; USAID Mission Director, Joseph Williams, and the Regional Director of ProCredit Bank, Ada Përmeti, the City of Korca signed the second commercial loan to a local government unit in Albania.

This commercial loan was made possible with the assistance of the USAID Local Governance Program in Albania (LGPA) and USAID’s Development Credit Authority, as part of the technical assistance for local economic development and supporting the implementation of the local borrowing law.

KORCE AND POGRADEC, MARCH 31, 2010    USAID Mission Director, Joseph C. Williams, and the Mayor of Korce, Niko Peleshi, launched today a new computerized tax systems in Korca.  The day before, Joseph Williams launched the same system in Pogradec with the Mayor, Artan Shkembi.  The system, which was developed through USAID’s Local Governance Program in Albania (LGPA), will make tax collection and services more efficient and effective, thus leading to greater tax revenues for cities and improved services for citizens.

TIRANA, MARCH 25, 2010 Last week, USAID’s Competitive Enterprise Development program, in partnership with the National Tourism Agency and the Albanian Tourism Association, participated in the world’s leading travel trade fair ITB Berlin 2010 held in Germany.  There, USAID announced the launch of a Familiarization Tours program (FAM Tours 2010) for foreign tour operators interested in selling Albania as a travel destination.

SHKODRA, MARCH 19, 2010     The Municipality of Shkodra opened today a new Tourist Information Office, as part of the city’s ongoing tourism promotion efforts.  The office will offer free of charge, high-quality professional tourism information services to tourists and visitors.

Mayor Lorenc Luka and Mr. Stephen Herbaly, a representative of USAID/Albania, delivered remarks.  Both speakers highlighted the importance of this office for the city and its tourism businesses.
