New Delhi, India – In an effort to strengthen commercial and economic ties between Afghanistan and India through trade and investment, the Governments of India and Afghanistan, along with the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), opened the first “Passage to Prosperity: India-Afghanistan Trade and Investment Show”. The event brings together more than 200 representatives from Afghan companies and more than 800 Indian participants to forge new business connections and discuss potential investment opportunities.

Graduation commenced today for USAID’s Afghan Women in Engineering and Architecture Internship program when eight female engineers and architects completed the program.  The program was established by USAID in 2011.  So far, 23 female internship students have graduated.

The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) in collaboration with the Attorney’s General Office (AGO) will offer six-month internships to 240 female Afghan Law or Sharia graduates.  The internships will develop the capacity of women to become prosecutors and expand women’s access to the justice system of Afghanistan. The internship program also supports the goal of the AGO and the Office of the President to expand the number of female prosecutors within the AGO.

Over 400 civil society, media and government representatives from all 34 provinces of Afghanistan gathered in Kabul December 14-15 for the Framework for Cooperation Conference 2016. The two-day conference, facilitated by the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) Afghan Civic Engagement Program (ACEP), was an opportunity to discuss current engagement among civil society, media and government and collaboratively develop pathways to improve future coordination and cooperation.

The U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) announced a three-year extension to its 2010-2016 Commercial Horticulture and Agricultural Marketing Program (CHAMP) to widen its geographic coverage in Afghanistan and reach more international markets; the extension added nearly $16 million to the project’s previous budget, $46 million.
