In honor of World AIDS Day on December 1, 2014, USAID is celebrating our HIV and AIDS work under PEPFAR. In particular, we will be highlighting efforts related to PEPFAR’s theme, “Focus, Partner, Achieve: An AIDS-Free Generation.”

As the year draws to a close, we look back at the amazing impact that the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), the U.S. President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR), and our implementing partners have had worldwide. PEPFAR has entered a new phase under new leadership. We have focused our energy on controlling the HIV epidemic in order to achieve a sustainable response. The vision for PEPFAR moving forward is grounded in five key agendas: impact, efficiency, sustainability, partnership, and human rights. We look forward to working together with transparency, accountability and impact toward our goal of an AIDS-free generation.

USAID’s Office of HIV/AIDS is excited to announce the launch of its own Flickr account! The account hosts hundreds of pictures from USAID’s work combatting HIV and AIDS around the globe. To celebrate its launch and World AIDS Day, we held a photo contest. We are pleased to share the winning photo as the header at the top of this page. This beautiful image was submitted by Wendy Tactuk, courtesy of CapacityPlus and IntraHealth International. More of our best photo contest entries can be found in this album.
