Reed Aeschliman is a career member of the Senior Foreign Service. Prior to joining the Asia Bureau as Deputy Assistant Administrator, he served as the Director of the Office of Energy & Infrastructure in the Bureau for Economic Growth, Education and Environment and as the acting Mission Director for USAID/Sri Lanka & Maldives. From 2011 to 2015, he served as Deputy Mission Director of USAID/Philippines & Pacific Islands. Earlier USAID postings include Afghanistan, Cambodia and India.

Throughout his Foreign Service career, Mr. Aeschliman managed the design and implementation of a full range of Democratic and Economic Governance, Environment, Education and Infrastructure programs.

Prior to joining USAID in 2000, Mr. Aeschliman served as a U.S. Peace Corps volunteer in Thailand. He also practiced law through an appointment as Assistant Law Director for the City of Akron, Ohio, and private practice in Columbus, Ohio. While working as a private attorney, he engaged in international legal consulting assignments in Southeast Asia and China.

Mr. Aeschliman holds a Master’s Degree in International Affairs, Southeast Asian Studies from Ohio University, and a Jurist Doctorate from the University of Akron School of Law.
