Webinar Series: USAID’s Water and Development Strategy

  • Register below. Space is limited.

Please join the Water Office for a series of webinars to better understand USAID’s Water and Development Strategy and how its principles provide the foundation for Agency water programming.

The USAID Water and Development Strategy seeks to improve health outcomes through the provision of sustainable water supply, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) and enhance food security through the sustainable and more productive management of water in agriculture. The webinar series will include sessions on Sanitation, WASH and Nutrition, Sustainability of WASH Services, Drinking Water Quality and Agricultural Water Management.

Webinar Sessions in the Series

Sanitation

April 28, 2015

More than 2.5 billion people lack access to improved sanitation worldwide. In this webinar, USAID’s Jesse Shapiro discusses and responds to participant questions about the impacts of sanitation; critical challenges to improving sanitation; the sanitation ladder and service chain; and programmatic interventions to improve sanitation.

Agricultural Water Management

May 14, 2015

Globally, agriculture accounts for most freshwater withdrawals and the push to exploit more water for food security in the face of a changing and more variable climate, as well as for more water-intensive crops – is increasing. In this webinar, Biniam Iyob, Water and Irrigation Advisor with USAID’s Bureau for Food Security, will discuss how to select best-fit practices in agricultural water management.

WASH and Nutrition

May 26, 2015

Overcoming undernutrition is a great challenge that will require both WASH and nutrition interventions. Elizabeth Jordan, from USAID’s Global Health Bureau, will discuss the connection between undernutrition and lack of access to water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) services and highlight opportunities for integrated programming to achieve better health outcomes.

Sustainability of WASH Services

To be sustainable, WASH programs need to be designed to have lasting impact over time and after USAID’s assistance ends. USAID’s Heather Skilling and Rochelle Rainey will host this webinar on the nature of sustainable WASH services; factors of sustainable service; challenges and approaches that can improve programming outcomes by addressing sustainability.

Drinking Water Quality

June 18, 2015

Gaining access to an improved water supply does not necessarily entail gaining access to a safe water supply. In this webinar, USAID water quality technical experts, Trey Flowers and Rochelle Rainey, will share practical strategies for incorporating water quality considerations into our water supply projects.

Please note: Registration for each webinar session is required since space is limited. If you are not able to attend, a link to the recording of each webinar will be posted on this web page shortly after each event. Because we have a limited number of webinar seats available, if you register for a webinar but are not able to attend, kindly cancel your registration before the day of the event so that someone else can participate.
