U. S. Government Celebrates International Literacy Day

Dushanbe, Tajikistan, September 23, 2014 U.S. Ambassador Susan M. Elliot joined Deputy Minister of Education and Science Tojinisso Mahmadova, local education officials, teachers, and students as School No. 4 celebrated the 48th annual International Literacy Day in Danghara District of Khatlon Oblast.

U. S. Government Delivers Water to Homes in Vahdat District

 U.S. Ambassador Susan M. Elliott and Chorsu Jamoat Chairman Emom Siddikov officially handed over a new drinking water system to the residents of Ghalchagi village in Chorsu, Vahdat District. Vahdat District Chairman Amirzoda Rahmonali (TBC), USAID representatives, jamoat officials, Mahalla Committee leaders, and residents of Ghalchagi village also participated in the ceremony. The system will provide 353 residents with clean drinking water. The water infrastructure project is part of the USAID Local Governance Project, which works in 10 districts and 20 jamoats to improve the quality of local governance and service delivery.

U.S. Government Connects Tajikistan and Afghanistan through Vocational Education

The USAID-funded Cross-Border Vocational Education Project, the University of Central Asia’s School of Professional and Continuing Education (SPCE) honored graduates at a graduation ceremony in Khorugh. Shodikhon Jamshed, Governor of Gorno-Badakhshon Autonomous Oblast, His Excellency Abdulagafur Arezou, Afghan Ambassador to Tajikistan, and respected representatives of the Aga Khan Development Network participated in the ceremony.

 In support of the Government of Tajikistan, the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), as donor co-convener of the Scaling-Up Nutrition (SUN) movement along with UNICEF in Tajikistan, helped launch the initiative with a national kick-off workshop on Monday August 11.
