Overview

The Support to Rule of Law Programs for Afghanistan project aims to enhance access to legal aid (professional legal counseling and civil/criminal defense), social protection services (professional family counseling and mediation), and social inclusion (re-integration into family or society) for at-risk Afghan women and girls.  In addition to offering direct legal aid services, the project also works with government institutions and non-governmental organizations to promote implementation of the Ending Violence Against Women (EVAW) law, in addition to other improvements in the rule of law and the formal justice system.

Activities

• Enhance access to legal services for women and girls in Herat, Kabul and Mazar-e Sharif  
• Enhance access to safe reintegration after prison and other social work for women and girls in  Herat, Kabul and Mazar-e Sharif
• Increase awareness of women’s legal rights in Herat, Kabul and Mazar-e Sharif
• Strengthen alliances with the government and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) working to promote women’s and girl’s legal and social rights in Herat, Kabul and Mazar-e Sharif

Accomplishments

• The Support to Rule of Law Programs for Afghanistan began activities in November 2012.  Results for the above activities will be monitored and reported over the coming months.
