USAID's Resilience in the Limpopo River Basin (RESILIM) Program, in partnership with Kwalata and ScienceUnlimited, hosted the Science for Resilience Expo at the Kwalata Game Reserve in Hammanskraal from 12 – 14 May 2015.

Over two thousand pupils and their teachers from across Gauteng and the rest of the Limpopo Basin learned about climate change science, natural sciences and various climate change adaptation practices. Experts from more than twenty universities, science bodies, conservation organisations, companies and government departments conducted scheduled workshops, educational skits, illustrated talks and interactive exhibitions on Earth Science, Life Sciences, Health, Responsible and Green Living, and Career Guidance. The program promises to expose students to the impacts of climate change on their natural environment, water resources and their livelihoods, and the opportunities for a more resilient future.

RESILIM also hosted a side event together with all cooperative partners and the media to share further information on opportunities for investing in a resilient Limpopo River Basin. This information is based on a scientific-evidence from a Risk and Vulnerability Assessment of the Limpopo River Basin conducted by the RESILIM Program.

Kwalata Community Development Initiative, a subsidiary of the Kwalata Lodge (which is situated adjacent to the community of Hammanskraal), is a socio-economic development enterprise which has grown out of a twenty year involvement in the surrounding community.
