Play Unified Project

BACKGROUND

USAID supports projects committed to building a more inclusive society and strengthening the rights of persons with disabilities. The Play Unified Project is a two-year, $249,815 initiative to provide opportunities for youth with and without intellectual disabilities to work together to create socially inclusive communities

ACTIVITIES

Through this project, Special Olympics International engages 20 teachers from 10 mainstream and 10 special schools to facilitate and coach 200 players from the same schools to train and compete in three team sports – football, basketball and volleyball.  Additionally, the project identifies and trains 200 youth to create inclusive environments such as youth forums, awareness building campaigns, volunteer and social networks, and youth-led events and competitions.
