The United States Embassy, through the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), has allocated $50,000 (approx 2,150,000 PhP) of emergency response funds to provide non-food relief items to earthquake affected communities. The relief will be coordinated through USAID’s implementing partner, Plan International). In addition, through USAID's VisayasHealth Project, 6000 units of hygiene kits will be made available to earthquake victims in Bohol. Through the World Food Programme, USAID has also been providing logistical assistance to the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) in some of the affected areas.In addition, two US military water purification units have already been transported to Tagbilaran and will be operated by Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) engineers to produce fresh drinking water for those affected by the earthquake.

The Embassy continues to work closely with its Philippine partners to determine the type of assistance most needed in the coming days. “We are very concerned about the tragic loss of life and suffering caused by the Bohol earthquake. The assistance USAID can offer will be a good first step in mitigating that suffering,” said Charge d’Affairs Brian Goldbeck.
