WASHINGTON, D.C. - USAID Administrator Dr. Rajiv Shah begins his visit to London by representing the United States Government at the Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunizations (GAVI Alliance) donor pledging conference. The GAVI Alliance is a public-private global health partnership, created in 2000 to save children's lives and protect people's health by increasing access to immunization in the world's poorest countries. The World Health Organization estimates GAVI support has directly prevented over 5.4 million future deaths since its inception. The United States played a lead role in the creation of GAVI and continues to be a strong supporter.

Next, Administrator Shah will participate at the second United States-European Union High Level Consultative Group Meeting. The objective is to demonstrate that the E.U. and the U.S. remain committed to working together at the global and partner country level to increase the impact of assistance on development results.

Administrator Shah will then deliver an address on delivering meaningful results in global development at the London School of Economics. The address will discuss how the development community must transform the way it provides assistance to deliver effective, efficient, and meaningful results.
