WASHINGTON, D.C.  – U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) Administrator Rajiv Shah announced partnerships with the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida) and the Volvo Group in Sweden today.

The partnership between USAID and Volvo will promote sustainable development in Africa through workforce development, including vocational training, traffic and road safety, and workplace health and wellness including HIV/AIDS prevention.

The $400 million development partnership between USAID and Sida will focus on science, technology, innovation, and partnership.  Under the new agreement, USAID and Sida will each provide $200 million over four years that will be jointly programmed by the two organizations. The partnership grew out of a history of successful collaboration between USAID and Sida on innovative projects, such as Securing Water for Food, Making All Voices Count, Powering Agriculture, and the LGBT Global Partnership.  It is an example of creating best-in-class partnerships to advance our missions and inspire others, while at the same exhibiting leadership in defining a new model for development.
