Overview

The VWO Safe House for At-Risk Women and Girls project, which was signed in September 2012, supports efforts to establish and operate women’s shelters.  Specifically, the project supports immediate safe refuge to at-risk women and girls, including victims of violence, in Nimroz province.  The project will also support psycho-social counseling to victims of abuse and violence, legal counseling and services to women, and will establish a case referral system to ensure efficient protection for at-risk women and girls.

Activities

• Work with the Afghan Government and donor community to establish a women’s shelter in Nimroz province
• Obtain government approval for the operation of a women’s shelter in Nimroz
• Provide shelter and psycho-social counseling to victims of abuse and violence
• Provide legal counseling and services to women

Accomplishments

• Received approval from Ministry of Women’s Affairs to establish a women’s shelter in Nimroz
