United States Agency for International Development (USAID) will be celebrating its 53rd year in existence on November 3. Since its inception in 1961, USAID commenced providing aid support to Jamaica just one year after, making 2014 the anniversary of fifty two years of partnership with this country. In an effort to highlight this milestone, the Prime Minister of Jamaica, the Most Hon. Portia Simpson Miller has a congratulatory message.

U.S. Embassy Kingston is currently hosting a senior technical team from the Office of the Global AIDS Coordinator (OGAC), headquartered in Washington DC, for a week-long series of discussions on HIV/AIDS programs in Jamaica. With funding support from the U.S. President’s Emergency Plan for AIDs Relief (PEPFAR), the OGAC Team will examine the implementation of HIV/AIDS prevention and treatment programs, by Jamaica’s Ministry of Health and U.S. Government agencies represented at the Embassy, with the view to refocus and restructure HIV/AIDS program funding in the island and throughout the region.

The Social Enterprise Boost Initiative’s (SEBI) primary goal is to create an enabling business environment for social enterprises in Jamaica; and to assist them in transitioning their grant-funded operations into viable, profit-making businesses, which can support their social missions.
