JAKARTA – Leaders from approximately 30 districts across Indonesia attended the National Policy Forum on Teacher Deployment to discuss strategies on how to equally distribute teachers based on local schools’ needs, teacher qualification, and student-to-teacher ratio. The Forum was hosted by the Ministry of Education and Culture (MOEC) and the U.S. Agency for International Development Prioritizing Reform, Innovation, and Opportunities for Reaching Indonesia’s Teachers, Administrators and Students (USAID PRIORITAS) program.

“Americans and Indonesians alike know that teachers are critical to a child’s success, and in turn, paramount to a nation’s future,” said U.S. Ambassador Robert Blake. “The United States is proud to partner with the Indonesia national and local governments to help ensure that all students have access to a quality education.”

On behalf of the American people, USAID improves lives and accelerates progress around the world. USAID PRIORITAS, a five-year $83.7 million project, partners with MOEC to improve the quality of basic education through teacher and school administrator training. Additionally, USAID PRIORITAS works with local partners from the districts, universities and province-level education quality assurance agencies (LPMP), to successfully map teacher distribution, develop policy solutions, conduct public consultations, and support the implementation of the Joint Five Minister Decree on Teacher Deployment in 23 partner districts. USAID PRIORITAS has begun working with 20 additional districts.

USAID works with the Indonesian government, local leaders, academia, the private sector, civil society, and development partners to help Indonesia achieve its national development goals and emerge as a stronger partner in addressing global challenges.
