A major, new policy report was launched 30 January 2014, aimed at accelerating progress to reduce maternal and neonatal mortality in Indonesia.  The report, "Reducing Maternal and Neonatal Mortality in Indonesia:  Saving Lives, Saving the Future", was developed by a joint committee from the U.S. National Academies and the Indonesian National Academy of Science.  The launch was attended by over 100 scientists, researchers, community organizations, and media.  Speakers included the U.S. Deputy Chief of Mission (DCM), Ms. Kristen Bauer, the Indonesian Minister of Health, Dr. Nafsiah Mboi, and other senior government officials, representatives of the US and Indonesian Academies and committee members, and women's rights activists.  The DCM announced a new USAID solicitation for collaborative research to address maternal and neonatal health implementation issues in Indonesia. Both report and research activities are supported under USAID's Partnerships for Enhanced Engagement in Research (PEER) Health agreement with the US National Academies.
