On June 7, the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and the Ministry of Education launched the distribution of over 4 million books in English and local Ghanaian languages to public primary schools in all 216 districts. The aim is to improve the reading skills of nearly 2.8 million primary school students, enhance education policies and management systems, as well as strengthen parent, school and local government capacity to promote reading. The books will provide more access to reading materials and enrich the reading environment for kindergarten to primary 3 pupils in all of Ghana. U.S. Ambassador to Ghana Robert P. Jackson and Minister of Education, Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang delivered remarks to commemorate the official handover of the books.
The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and the Ghana Federation for Disability Organizations (GFD) officially launched their “Expanding Participation for Persons with Disabilities” activity on April 21. At the launch, the U.S. Ambassador to Ghana, Robert P. Jackson; Executive Secretary of the National Council on Persons with Disabilities, Kwamena Dadsie Dennis; GFD President, Yaw Ofori Debra and others expressed their commitment to partnering to increase the rights of people with disabilities in Ghana.
United States Agency for International Development (USAID) Ghana Mission Director Andrew Karas traveled to the Northern Region of Ghana from March 2 to March 6, 2016. During the trip, he attended the 20th International Trade Fair; spoke at a business seminar held by SADA and the USAID Financing Ghanaian Agriculture Project; visited USAID and Peace Corps project sites; and met with USAID partners, Northern Regional Minister Hon. Abdullah Abubakari, and President John Dramani Mahama.
This publicly shared document provides information gathered from the Stakeholders Meeting (January 13, 2016) that introduced the RHO Concept Note and discussion around key questions such as achieving scalable impact in Family Planning and HIV, engaging more partners, and learning how treatment coverage can be improved in West Africa. The discussion, inputs, and resulting themes were utilized during the RHO Project Activity Design (PAD) Planning Retreat on January 26 - 27, 2016 and will continue to influence the direction of RHO activities. The United States Agency for International Development (USAID), in collaboration with the Ghana Ministry of Health, the National Health Insurance Authority, and the World Health Organization, organized a five-day workshop focused on the goal of achieving universal healthcare in Africa. The workshop launched on Monday, February 15, 2016, at the Mövenpick Hotel in Accra, Ghana, and will run through Friday, February 19. It brings together more than 150 representatives from the government, civil society, and the private sector of countries including Benin, Côte d’Ivoire, Ghana, Ethiopia, Nigeria, Rwanda, Senegal, Togo and Uganda.
