On May 11, at 11:00 a.m., USAID Mission Director Mr. Stephen M. Haykin joined Mr. Aluda Goglichidze, the Deputy Minister of Education and Science of Georgia and Ms. Marina Ushveridze, Applied Civic Education and Teacher Training Program Director to open the Second National Fair-Conference of the Civics Teachers’ Forum at the Tbilisi Expo Georgia.

The civic education Fair-Conference brought together 300 civics teachers and guests from across Georgia to discuss innovations in the field of civics education, share experiences, and participate in professional development.  Awards for the best civics teachers of the year were given to eleven civics teachers at an award ceremony at the conference.

This event was sponsored by USAID and organized by the Forum of Civics Teachers, a network of civics teachers established under the USAID’s Applied Civic Education and Teacher Training Program (ACETT).  ACETT is implemented by PH International in partnership with the Centre for Training and Consultancy.  Through this program and others, the U.S. Government supports civic education and participation as important means to helping Georgians create a more inclusive and engaged democratic society.
