Central America is one of the tropical regions most affected by climate change. It is necessary to confront this threat with innovative ideas and actions that improve the livelihoods of the populations, while maintaining the provision of goods and services.
The Regional Climate Change Program is an initiative that was created to provide a platform for different partners to coordinate efforts to address and mitigate the impact of global climate change, and support the development of rural populations.
The program is working to facilitate investment for the marketing of local, national, and regional carbon credits. It also seeks to develop regional mitigation interventions that respond to the causes of climate change, and harmonize and integrate regionally REDD + and its protocols for monitoring, reporting and verification.
It facilitates the generation of climate change data systems to support decision-making and distributes data from climate change to a broad spectrum of users.
The program promotes synergies between the mitigation and the adaptation in the sustainable management of landscapes, incorporating the concept of Carbon Mangroves in both national and regional agendas.

USAID helps strengthen the regional and national capacities to develop and implement incentive programs, to reduce the deforestation and degradation of the forest and other uses of the land that cause greenhouse gases emissions.
