SAN SALVADOR–The U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) and the Municipality of San Salvador inaugurated a modern computer training center, located in the Work Training Center in the capital city, to help increase employment opportunities for youth.

USAID invested $19,863 in this new center, which includes 21 computers and software. The municipality contributed $8,814 for materials, furniture, management and equipment maintenance. Courses in the new center will train youth in administration, auxiliary accounting, English, computing and basic pre-employment skills, among others.  Each year, more than four thousand youths are trained in the Work Training Center, and an annual average of 600 will participate in the courses to be taught in the new computer center.

USAID and the city of San Salvador have worked in alliance under USAID’s Access to Employment program to increase opportunities for youth through job fairs, the establishment of a multi-institutional board for youth employment and contacts with various employers and business associations.
