East Africa Program Overview 2014

Based in Nairobi, USAID/East Africa (USAID/EA) provides assistance across borders, supporting innovative regional programs.

  • The Mission works to improve regional cooperation, conflict resolution, food security, trade, environment and mitigation. A key element of the Mission’s programs is building the capacity of African regional organizations.
  • When needed, USAID/EA supports humanitarian assistance, including delivery of emergency food aid.
  • The Mission manages programs in the “limited/non presence countries” (L/NPCs) of Burundi, Central African Republic, Djibouti and Somalia.
  • USAID/EA supports six Presidential Initiatives: PEPFAR, Malaria, Feed the Future (FTF), Energy and Trade, Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI) and Global Climate Change (GCC), as well as three Agency initiatives: Resilience, Basic Education and Biodiversity.
