DENPASAR, Indonesia, July 1, 2014 -- As part of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) supported WaterLinks Alliance initiative that connects public-private sector partners to provide urban water services, WaterLinks and Borouge, along with the Denpasar Water Supply Company, are collaborating to help Denpasar Water improve its water supply service to nearly 3,000 marginalized community members in Denpasar’s Serangan area. 

Today, the three partners signed a Memorandum of Understanding to advance the collaboration where Borouge will provide up to 2,000 meters of high-density polyethylene pipes and associated fittings pipes and technical assistance on pipe laying while Denpasar Water is contributing additional pipes and required support for proper materials installation. WaterLinks has helped match Denpasar Water’s needs and Borouge’s interest to extend support service to low-income communities. In coordination with the Indonesia Water Supply Association, the Alliance is also partnering Denpasar Water and Malaysia’s Ranhill Utilities to further ensure continuous water supply to Serangan by reducing system leakages and managing pressure. 

Support and materials through this partnership will help Denpasar Water and most importantly its customers in the Serangan area soon enjoy continuous water supply, a major improvement from the past intermittent service limited to a few hours per day. Denpasar Water also plans to expand the service improvements to four other areas in Denpasar. The Denpasar Water Supply Company serves 71,500 customers for the city of Denpasar in Indonesia's Bali Province.
