TIRANA, JANUARY 20, 2012 With the support from the USAD’s Albanian Justice Sector Strengthening Project (JuST), the National Chamber of Advocates (NCA) presented to its members today the first issue of Albania’s only professional bar journal, “Avokatia.” The publication is one of a number of USAID-supported activities designed to help strengthen the professionalism and academic training of Albanian lawyers.
TIRANA, DECEMBER 22, 2011 Ambassador Arvizu delivered remarks and congratulated students at Thursday’s graduation ceremony at the Rectorate of Tirana University in Tirana. The School has made important contributions to improving Albania’s justice sector, providing initial and continuous education for Albanian magistrates (judges and prosecutors). To date, 133 judges and 99 prosecutors have graduated from the School.
TIRANA, DECEMBER 21, 2011 On December 16, USAID/Albania co-sponsored Albania’s first national conference on the country’s garment and footwear industry. Albania's garment and footwear manufacturers are important to the country’s economy both in terms of exports and employment. Yet, the future sustainability of the industry depends on their transitioning from fasson production to full cycle operations in order to meet EU market demands for quick turnaround time on small orders of high quality finished products.
KORÇA, OCTOBER 26, 2011 Today USAID’s Albanian Justice Sector Strengthening Project (JuST),in cooperation with the Albanian Foundation for Conflict Resolution (AFCR) held the first of three roundtables in Korça, with representatives from the Regional Chamber of Advocates, the local business community, and civil society organizations to encourage the use of mediation as an extrajudicial, faster and less costly alternative for resolution of conflicts between parties.
TIRANA, OCTOBER 24, 2011 Today, an alliance among the Albanian-American Development Foundation (AADF), the Government of Albania, USAID, Microsoft Albania, Hewlett-Packard, Cisco, and Albtelecom, was formally announced in a ceremony held at the Ministry of Innovation and Information and Communication Technology (ICT). Minister Genc Pollo, USAID/Albania Mission Director, Joseph Williams, and the Chairman of AADF, Michael Granoff, and representatives from Microsoft and Albtelecom, delivered remarks at the event.
