The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) has announced a special request for partnerships in businesses associated with agriculture. USAID wants to establish public-private sector alliances and leverage Afghan investment capital for projects to develop the agriculture sector.
Through the Global Development Alliance (GDA) program, USAID is seeking proposals for developing alliances and investment opportunities and will provide matching funds for accepted proposals.
Examples of proposals that would be considered for GDA funding include creating permanent and seasonal employment in agriculture, developing contract farming, processing of agricultural products, sorting and packaging of agricultural products, transportation of agricultural products and diversified sales and marketing of agricultural products.
Alliances for $500,000 to $5,000,000 may be submitted for a three to five year period, subject to availability of funding. Applicants should submit short concept papers to USAID and will receive instructions on whether or not to proceed with a full proposal. USAID will conduct a review of proposals at the end of each quarter during fiscal year 2007.
For more information on guidelines and procedures to submit a concept paper, please visit www.usaid.gov/gda to view the 2007 Annual Program Statement posted by the USAID Global Development Alliance Secretariat.
