Rule of Law Strengthened in Maidan-Wardak Province

MAIDAN SHAHR, WARDAK, AFGHANISTAN- Officials from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), the Governor of Maidan-Wardak Province, Abdul Jabar Naimi, and other local dignitaries opened the new provincial appeal court in Maidan-Wardak Province.

“We are here today not only to open the Maidan-Wardak provincial courthouse,” said the USAID official. “We are also here to highlight the completion of USAID’s courthouse construction project, and to announce that USAID will continue its support for the rehabilitation of Afghanistan’s justice sector. The Supreme Court having selected this provincial court to serve as an example to other courts throughout Afghanistan.”
 
The provincial court in Maidan-Wardak Province is the last of these facilities to be turned over to the Government of Afghanistan (GoA) since the courthouse construction project began in March 2003..Overall, USAID constructed or renovated 30 justice facilities and 10 mixed use district justice buildings in 17 provinces of Afghanistan, at a total cost of more than $13 million.
