KABUL, AFGHANISTAN- The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) recently started a three-year Local Governance and Community Development project in Afghanistan, to be carried out through the Provincial Reconstruction Teams.
The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) recently started a three-year Local Governance and Community Development project in Afghanistan, to be carried out through the Provincial Reconstruction Teams.
The Local Governance and Community Development (LGCD) project will help the Government of Afghanistan (GoA) improve its ability to deliver services and address citizen needs in some of Afghanistan’s most remote provinces. It will also focus on getting immediate, tangible reconstruction and development assistance out to isolated communities, particularly those who have been affected by the insurgency. The contract for this three-year project is $150 million.
“By implementing this project through the Provincial Reconstruction Teams and focusing on the provinces,” Mission Director Leon S. Waskin commented, “local communities in remote areas will, in some cases for the first time, be able to work with local governments to bring about real, positive change in their lives.”
The Local Governance and Community Development Project is being implemented by Development Alternatives Incorporated (DAI) and ARD Incorporated. This is another one of the many projects supported by the American people to assist the Government of Afghanistan in providing development and reconstruction assistance to Afghanistan.
